oh my god, the Bleep Test
January 23, 2008
Brilliant weekend – On Saturday made a trip up to the Lilleshall Sports Centre (National Sports Centre) near Telford, what an amazing place.
This saw our next ACU training session, on Nutrition and Fitness. Met Sam and Ben from Blue Skies Fitness, Sam gave us a really interesting talk about nutrition, the do’s and don’ts about what we should eat, before and after a race. Mum came with me so hopefully, she now knows what I should eat and drink, to make me more focused, and to improve my riding.
Next came the Fitness talk from Ben, he helped me greatly, I struggle a lot with my upper body strength, and he gave me some great tips on improving my muscle strength. So watch out for me walking round the pits with two 2 litre bottles of water in my hands.
Lunch, we joined the other sports people in the restaurant, and had a nutritional meal, which was to set us up for the next part of our training, oh my god, the Bleep Test.
First we had our cholesterol tested, well I bled everywhere, and mine was good, below 3. Our height and weight were measured, and a record was made. The next test was the plank test, had not heard of this before, they put me up against Connor, I struggled but managed to keep up with him, and we did 3 1/2 minutes, that was good.
Mark was trying to beat us all, but he is older and should be stronger, we were giving him a run for his money.
The bleep test was next, well I have never done this before, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, we all started off in a line, it was easy to start with, but the pace soon quickened up, and you could feel the exhaustion, I lasted 10 mins, I was pleased with that. Dave gave Mark a good run, but Mark was far more superior to us. But watch out next time.
Sunday we decided to ride at Wilden Lane, Kidderminster, the track was boggy, and rough. I did 3 races, first race went well, had a bad start, but came through to win, second race was going well, going for the lead and crashed, eventually finishing 5th. Third race was a disaster, crashed on the first lap, got stuck under my bike, but managed to finish in the top ten. Overall I finished 3rd, the day could have been better, but it was one of those days.
