Lunatic Welshman Mark Jones made the dizzy heights of twelfth in the world and picked up a few injuries along the way. Then he really started smashing himself up. Here is what ‘Brains’ has done to himself over the years. These are accidents, you should see what he does to himself that is self inflicted!
TOP
Severed nerve in right shoulder when front end washed out at Holland GP 2002. Broken right collarbone when I hit a rock on a take off in Ireland 1994. Dislocated right collarbone when I missed a gear on a take off of a downhill double at the I.O.W gp in 2004. Pichon and only a few of us were doing it. One lap later Bry (MacKenzie) snapped both his wrists and didn’t even crash.
MIDDLE
Scar on right elbow from when my bike seized when landing from a
tabletop, I really can’t remember where that was though. Did I bang my head then?
Probably. Oh yeah I remember it was Canada Heights.
Broken right scaphoid when I got cross-rutted in a rhythm section in Holland, again! That
was 2000. I then broke and dislocated it another two times in 2001 probably because it
didn’t heal properly. Now it’s completely thrashed, I can’t even play darts like I would like!!
I have hardly any movement in it and have to sit down a lot when I riding because it won’t
bend when I stand up. Got some good scars from my operations.
Scars on left forearm from when I high sided onto a barbed wire fence at my track in 95. I don’t
have tape marking my track I have barbed wire to make me tough. Oh alright, no I don’t.
Broken left hand when I hit a kicker on a dusty straight and cartwheeled my bike at Wakes
Colne 98.
I’ve got some scarring but they’re good to have aren’t they? Like tribal tattoos. I’ve got one
on lower back where the tyre did a burn out on me at Ernee, 06. One on hip where they
had to borrow some part of body and put it somewhere else, that was for a bone graft for
scaphoid. Jocke Karlsson landed on me at Hawkstone in 1999 and split open my elbow, that
was a shame, but it’s another scar isn’t it?
Non mx related but a good one, you’ll like this one, it was caused by another rider. I’ve got a
scar on right bum cheek where Jamie Lewis thought it would be funny to shoot me with an
air rifle in 2005. I guess it is quite funny really, all my mates thought it was anyway.
BOTTOM
Chipped left knee cap the same time I did my collarbone at the I.O.W gp 04. That was a biggy
that one, I remember that one no problem. I get a nice reminder of that every time it’s cold!
Broken big toe on my left foot when I hit a kicker on a take off while testing in Italy 2000. That
one made me yelp a bit, it bent right under my foot inside my boot, getting that boot off was
an ordeal I can tell you.
Tore the cartilage in my left knee when I clipped a bank in Bleak Hall in 1995, that was bleak!
Broken right foot. The back end span out and I put my foot on a rock and it popped
the bones while testing Spain 2002. I always seem to hurt myself testing.
Torn the ligaments in my right foot. That was a sharp pain I won’t forget in a hurry. My
foot went under the foot peg when I landed from a jump. I remember Steve Dixon taping my ankle
as soon as I came in from practice so it wouldn’t swell and I could get my boot back on. Getting
the boot back on and riding again wasn’t a problem, getting it off again with no adrenaline
running through me was though! I can’t remember where that was either, god I’ve
been battered like a bit of Haddock haven’t I?
