HIGH FIVES - Ben Field

May 16, 2008

One on the characters of the paddock some people might not know about is Ben Field a little chap with a big heart, Ben rides for Relentless Suzuki in the MX2 class in the Maxxis British championship, it’s his first year mixing it with the big boys, so what’s going down Mr Field?

MOTO - Last season you competed in the MXY2 class and this year sees you riding in the MX2 class. Now where half way through the maxis campaign, how have you found the transition?
“I’ve found it pretty tough to be fair, riding with those guys is hard going and the pace is so fast. I haven’t managed to qualify for any of the rounds so far but haven’t really found my feet at the championships yet, but I’m sure by the end of the season I will be able to qualify and get some results on the board with the help and support of the people around me.”

MOTO - What has been the highlight of your career so far and what has been one of your worst?
“Well one of my highlights and also my worst has to be at Pontrilas at the last round of the MXY2 championship qualifying 1st getting both hole shots and the coming 2nd in the 1st race with the fastest lap. The 2nd race then turned for the worst as I was winning and had my rear sprocket sheer and stopped me from finishing the race and getting the overall.”

MOTO - This season sees you on the Relentless Suzuki again for the 2nd year running. How do you find the team and bikes?
“Last season was a good season as I was doing the schoolboy championships with the support of Rob and the rest of the team. This year I’m doing the adult championships and it has been a little different from my side with not being the only rider competing within the team in the same championships. But apart from that the bikes are good with help from our local dealer Sherwood Motorcycles and also made a few changes to the bike which makes me feel more comfortable on it.”

MOTO - Have you made any plans yet for next year?
“Well I am not too sure on teams as yet… but I think I will be competing in the Under21s and also the Mx2 class.”

MOTO - If you could go riding with anyone who would it be and why? And what track would you go to?
“Well it has to be Ryan Villopoto at Budds Creek… He was ridiculously fast round there at the des nations and it would be good to ride round with him and see how he does it. Mind you I would only see him for a corner and then he would be gone!!! Ha-ha.”
