HIGH FIVES - Gordon Crockard

July 29, 2008

Former British Motocross Champion and Grand Prix Winner Gordon Crockard shocked many people during the winter when he announced that for 2008 he would be moving away from Motocross and racing the G.N.C.C series in America, but last weekend he made a return to British Motocross at the MMX meeting at Blaxhall Pits, we caught up with the Man from Northern Ireland to see why he was back in the UK and how things were going so far this year.

Firstly, how come you’re back racing in the UK?
There is a two month break in the GNCC series in the States, they have a summer break because it’s very hot and it’s deemed too dangerous to race for 3 hours in the extreme heat. We start back racing again at the end of September.

How have things been going so far this year?
Not too bad my best was an eighth and I’m lying in tenth in the championship at the moment, so it’s OK for my first year.

How much difference is there between racing GNCC compared to Motocross?
It’s chalk and cheese! Absolutely and totally different, in GNCC you have a thirty minute lap so it’s virtually impossible to remember the track, you don’t have an opportunity to practice on it before the race and you’re forbidden to walk the track as well, so you always start on fresh ground. The other big thing is that your racing for 3 hours non-stop!

What’s it like living in the USA?
It’s alright, it’s certainly a huge culture change. The people are OK, you get your really nice people but you still get the Pratt’s but that’s the same wherever you go. It’s easy to live there though, the weather is fantastic but it if you don’t like the heat I wouldn’t recommend it because does get hot! All in all it’s pretty good.

Is a return to full time Motocross something that you are planning on in the future?
Yeah, it’s something I could do but I do have my reservations about how the World Championships are going but I certainly I’d consider it, I love Motocross and it’s what I started off doing. Providing it’s fun and I’m enjoying it I’ll definitely always do it.

Thanks Crockstar, we hope all goes well during your brief return to the Uk and best of luck for the remainder of the GNCC series.
