HIGH FIVES - Joe Dark

May 14, 2008

Meredith Suzuki's Joe Dark is now in his third season as an adult rider and is finally showing the speed that made him a schoolboy champion. I caught up with him just after the last Maxxis Round at Lyng where he finished eighth overall in the MX2 class to see what's going on with the lad from Bristol.

You disappeared towards the end of last season, what happened there?
“The reason for that was because I slipped a disk in my back and the Doctor said I wasn't going to be able to ride again, but here I am this year still going for it.”

You seem to be having a good start to the season, how pleased with it are you?
“Yeah, I'm very pleased , I guess all the hard work through the winter is starting to pay off and I'm just going to keep trying my best.”

At Lyng you came 8th overall and beat some guys who will be in action at the British GP, is there any chance that we will see you racing there?
“Well I’m hoping to get an entry and I would really like the chance to try and have a go at it but I'm not too sure yet because the decision is out of my hands.”

I've been out practising with you recently and you've been on a 450f, is that something you’re looking at with an eye on next season?
“Yes, I mean I do really like the 450f but it all depends on how well the rest of the season goes and whether I can get a ride in a team next year, but if I don't then yes I will be going 450 but it's due to the cost part more than anything as they are a lot cheaper to run.”

What are you hoping for during the rest of the season?
“Well I'm going real well at the minute so I'm just hoping on finishing on a high note! , winning the under 21s and top 10 in the Maxxis would be nice but who knows, I'm just going to try hard and give it 110%.”

Thanks Joe, hopefully we'll see you having a bash at the GP but whatever happens good luck for the rest of the year.
