HIGH FIVES - Lewis Gregory

June 24, 2008

Twenty two year old year old Lewis Gregory from Churchdown in Gloucestershire has been a former youth champion, two time British Supercross champion and more recently achieved his best ever result in the Maxxis British Championship with a third overall in the MX2 class at Lyng. With a pre-season injury causing him to miss the start of his season, he is now getting back to his best so I caught up with him for a High Five to get the low down!

MOTO: What exactly was the injury that caused you to miss the start of the season?
“I was out practicing in Spain in January and I had a big crash the day before I was meant to go home. I broke the bone that is next to the scaphoid, the capitate, it's quite a hard one to brake but I managed it! It didn't show up on the X-ray's a first and I was told that it was just a sprain, but it wasn't right and I had further X-ray's about 4 or 5 weeks later and it then showed that there was a brake but I had to have a MRI scan done to fully diagnose it, so that was why I was out for such a long while.”

MOTO: How did it feel to get your first Maxxis Championship podium at Lyng?
“It was awesome! I never really expected it to be honest, I knew I could ride pretty good but it was only my third race back after the injury so it came as a shock to get that result so soon!”

MOTO: After getting that result how disappointing was it to miss out on qualifying for the British GP?
“Very, I had a good opportunity in the heat race but I made a few mistakes and then I wasn't quite quick enough in the last chance. A few of those guys have really stepped it up this year with their flying laps and I couldn't match them.”

MOTO: You've been on Suzuki's riding for Rob Hooper for a few years now, you must like it?
“Yeah it's real good, we got the bike working really well. It's just a shame that I missed the start of the season because I felt good during pre-season but that's just the way it goes.”

MOTO: What's your plans for next season?
“I'm not sure yet, it's still a little bit early. A few people have said to me about going MX1 because they think I might suit an MX1 bike but I'm not sure, I've never really tried a 450 but maybe that's something I'll look at trying out and see what happens!”

MOTO: Thanks Lewis, good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully we'll see you back on the Maxxis Podium before the end of the year!
