HIGH FIVES - Lewis Rose

June 10, 2008

After a successful schoolboy motocross career, 18 year old Lewis Rose stepped up to the Adult classes in 2006 and after two seasons on an ARW Yamaha, he is now a noticable absentee from the British MX Scene after deciding on a change of scenery for 2008. I caught up with Lewis to see what's been happening with him. Many people will have noticed that your not on the British MX scene this year, where are you?
"I've been in Germany since the new year! I'm riding for the Janssen Racing Kawasaki and I'm competing in two championships, the DM 125 German Championship and the ADAC Youngster cup."

How did the Janssen Racing Kawasaki deal come about?
"Well, basically over Christmas Rob Meek said told me to go for training with him so I went for it and took Kristian Whatley with me also, Jeff Jannsen was there and he liked me and offered me a deal. He raced in the Grand Prix`s for 10 years and also coached Markus Schiffer to where he is now so with that knowledge and background behind him I felt that I couldn't refuse the opportunity that he gave me to race there and train all year under his guidance."

How are things going over there?
"Things are going good. My riding has changed so much and I feel real confident on the bike now, the Kawasaki that I'm riding is awesome, I've been running in the top 10 but some silly mistakes have affected my results."

Are there many differences between racing in Britain and Germany?
"The racing in Germany is a lot closer, you get the top 8 or 9 riders all within a second on lap times, in fact all the way from 1st to 40th is real close, so the racing is a lot more competitive throughout the field."

Will we see you be back racing over here soon or are you planning on staying away for a few years?
"I'd like to come back maybe and catch a few races at the end of this season when i have no races in Germany, that would be awesome! . I just need a little bit more luck then I believe I can show people the ability I have and see what happens from there!"

Thanks Lewis, we hope you have a good year over there and do us Brits proud!
