AMCA returns to FROCESTER after 13 year absence
October 16, 2007
After a break of some 13 years, motocross action as eventually returned to the hillside track at Frocester thanks to the initiative of the Berkeley Heath AMCA club. Having only been born in 2006,this is Berkeley Heath’s first season of staging events, previously relying on the generosity of their fellow North Avon/South Gloucestershire AMCA clubs for the loan of circuits. However they have now at long last secured a ‘home’ track with a deal to run up to four events during 2008 at Frocester.Alright so the hillside venue was rather rough and demanding on Sunday, but the club with just 23 riding members have already promised to radically change the layout and provide a much smoother surface for next year.Despite the undulating terrain,125cc AMCA championship rider Lee Dunham continued his fine form from the previous week at Nympsfield by blasting his 250F MotoExtreme Kawasaki to an unbeaten scorecard. In an Unlimited Experts group,Dunham’s most difficult challenge came in moto three when he was forced to pass fast starting Mike Woolf and Alex Barnes.Indeed in all three races Woolf was to finish as the runner-up,naturally also taking home the 2nd place overall trophy ahead of Kristofer Ayres,Tom Guilding and Barnes.Top rider in the Open Experts class was late entry Michael White. Seniors at Frocester were catered for with two groups of Unlimited action, victories going to Mark Sims and Wayne Angell. In group one,Sims won the opening two motos before failing to figure in the final clash results.First man past the chequered flag in moto three was Andy Woolf who was also the overall runner-up despite finishing level on points with Paul Smith.Over in Seniors Unlimited Group Two,Wayne Angell built the foundations for his number one spot on the podium by winning the opening two motos. However in the last race of the day,Angell was to be eventually defeated by Brad Hedges. Anthony Mallett aboard his big 450cc Husqvarna took the victories in the first two clashes of the Open class Juniors at Frocester, followed home on each occasion by the hard working secretary of the Berkeley Heath club,Rich Bishop. In moto three though it was all change as late entry Jeff Neathway proved victorious whilst Mallett and Bishop were restricted to 9th and 6th places respectively. In the overall standings though,Mallett was still the victor whilst Bishop’s runners-up spot means that he is now promoted to Seniors status. In the always ultra competitive 125cc Juniors Under 18 years-old group,Nathan Abbott took moto one from Jack Drummond and Andrew Wren. However in the remaining clashes,Wren took both the wins and also the ultimate overall verdict.Over in the very hectic 125cc Juniors for Over 18 years-old,the moto wins were shared by Nathan Jones,Andrew Wells and Karl Chapman.Despite the demanding nature of the Frocester track, the 26 Inter-Juniors present gallantly tackled the full circuit. With Kieran Dowler suffering moto one machine gremlins,it was Bradley Bird who who took the opening battle honours ahead of Joseph Regazzoli,Kieran Banks,Jonathon Hoppner and Alexander Hall.
Although Dowler was back in action for moto two, from here onwards Regazzoli dominated with two great victories to also earn the overall verdict with Bird in 2nd,Banks 3rd,Dowler 4th and Hoppner 5th. RESULTS OPEN CLASS EXPERTS SPONSORED BY THE BIKE STATION UK LTD
