AS SUZUKI STRENGTHEN IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

April 24, 2007

Tas Suzuki rider, David McKee, strengthened his Irish Supermoto Championship lead at the weekend, as the second round of the series went to the Kartworld circuit in Cork.

David, who has been enjoying great success in both the Irish and British championships on-board a Suzuki RM-Z450, went into the second round of the series with a four point lead over rival rider Lee Jones, with the clear intention of extending it by the end of the weekend.

A storming start in race-one, saw McKee commence a race-long battle with rival Kinsella, who despite his efforts could not find the pace to better the power of David’s RM-Z450SMR. Crossing the line ahead of his rival by just one second, David secured his fourth Irish win of the season.

Determined to go for another clean sweep, race-two saw Mckee get a slightly worse start, but with the grunty power of his Suzuki moved into the lead by lap two, to establish a healthy gap. A mistake that saw him loose the front two-laps from the end, meant an eventual 2nd place finish behind Kinsella.

In a very similar twist of fate, race-three saw David still complete a podium hat-trick, despite crashing on the very same corner as his previous race. David crossed the line in third and extended his championship advantage to eight points.

Speaking afterwards, David commented, “It’s obviously disappointing to miss out on wins, but we still came away with the championship lead and second overall on the day. The RM-Z450 is proving to be a very formidable Supermoto racer, and I can’t wait to get some more wins under my belt”.
