British Minibike series heads South for round four

August 29, 2007

With the dust having hardly had time to settle on an excellent third round held at Mildenhall, Suffolk, the 2007 British 4 stroke minibike championship marches swiftly on to its penultimate stop on its inaugural tour. The fantastic Tonymoto facility at Winchester will once again welcome the country’s leading minibike riders, with the South coast track having already proven its pedigree when it hosted the opening round of the series earlier in the year.

Just two rounds now separate the main contenders from taking the first ever National minibike titles, so the action is sure to be both fast and fierce as the battle to be the first name to be engraved on the main trophies draws to a close.

Jonathan Groves and Peter Crump are just six points apart at the top of the 50cc Pro Mini standings, and have a healthy lead over third placed rider Jason Breckon as they head to Winchester. Groves will be looking to increase his advantage over Crump this coming weekend so that he can go to the final round at Doncaster with some element of comfort.

In the Open Mini category Ireland’s James MacFerren currently heads Alan Docherty by a clear thirty-seven points, and knows that he only needs to avoid major disaster at the two remaining meetings to become champion. Docherty in contrast will have to withstand the threat of Elliot Gardener if he is to hold on to second place in this class.

There is another close battle in the Superstock Midsize class, with Toby Souchette having a slender seven point lead over Chris Parker at this point in the championship. However with one hundred and eighty points still up for grabs the fight for the crown is anything but over for these two riders, plus the impressive Tommy Wright who was absent from the last round.

Trevor Scott is fast becoming the most famous name in UK minibike racing, and deservedly so with him having a real chance of taking top honors in both the 88cc Pro Mini and Open Midsize divisions.

Whilst Scott has a good advantage in these two classes, he knows nothing is guaranteed in racing, and that the last two rounds are going to be anything, but easy for him.
