March 27, 2008
ROUND one of the British Youth Motocross Championships is set for Desertmartin motocross track on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 March.
The event has been held at Desertmartin for over 10 years and is a full packed two days of racing with the top youth riders competing from all over the UK and Ireland.
Over the years the BYMX Championships have seen many young riders come and go, some of them becoming today's motocross Grand Prix riders and amongst them the motocross elite.
Local motocross stars include Gordan Crockard have also raced in the championships as well as Cookstown and District Motocross members the McKeown Brothers – Richard , Brian and Neil.
The event is great for spectators and the atmosphere around the track on race day is electric. Despite its competitive nature there is still a good family atmosphere and sense of sportsmanship.
Qualifying will take place on the morning of Friday 28 March and will begin at 9.30am with racing continuing through until around 6.00pm. Racing will start again on Saturday morning at 9.30am and is expected to last until 4.30pm. Trophies for the event have been very kindly sponsored by local firm 'Tobermore Concrete Products Ltd'
Spectators get in free and it is a great family day out, with the chance to experience the thrills, spills and excitement of youth motocross at its highest level.
The Cookstown & District Motocross Club work hard all year around to prepare and maintain the track for such events and keep up its reputation as one of the best tracks in the world. So why not show your support to them and come along on race day to see what it is all about?
