Two riders hurt at Shobdon
March 27, 2008
TWO motocross riders have been hurt after going over jumps on a Herefordshire racetrack.
Both were airlifted to Hereford County Hospital following the accidents, on the Shobdon cross-country course last Sunday.
West Midlands Ambulance Service press officer Murray MacGregor said the first rider, a 39-year-old man from Montgomeryshire, had been going over a jump just after 10am when he fell off his bike and landed on his back.
"The race was stopped to allow the St John Ambulance crew who were at the event to start treatment," he said.
"The rider was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before being airlifted to hospital for further assessment and treatment."
The second accident happened at about 2.25pm, again during a race. This time, an ambulance and the the County Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene.
"Again, the rider was going over a jump but, on this occasion, the 24-year-old from Welshpool came off his bike and broke his left leg," Mr MacGregor added.
"The type of injury could easily keep him out for the rest of the season. His leg was splinted before he was airlifted to the same hospital."
