FIM MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX OF JAPAN-STATISTICS

May 22, 2007

MX1

That first victory in Teutschenthal was a great achievement for KTM Red Bull’s David Philippaerts, who has now higher hopes for his first season in the MX1 class. But it is tough for a debutant when people like Joshua Coppins of Yamaha Motocross are around.
Josh was on the podium in all the first five GP’s, winning three times, and clocking his first pole in Germany-by the way, Coppins is also the only rider who won at least one moto in each GP. Suzuki’s Kevin Strijbos was less consistent, but won the Portuguese Grand Prix with some class, that we will surely see again this season.
His team mate Steve Ramon clinched his second podium in Germany, where he also clocked the lap record during the race.
With Philippaerts adding eight more laps led to his 2007 records, also Marc de Reuver of Yamaha Motocross lead the group for six laps during the final moto of the last GP.

With his fourth double heat victory of the season, Yamaha De Carli’s Antonio Cairoli won his fifth GP in a row. There was no room for the rivals in Teutschenthal, as Cairoli owned the lead in all the eventual 36 laps, and even clocked the lap record during the race.
So far only GPKR’s Christophe Pourcel stopped the Italian in one heat-the first heat of the Spanish GP, but he was on the podium just twice.
KTM Red Bull’s Tyla Rattray was more consistent, missing the podium only in Portugal because of a mechanical failure in the final heat, whereas countryman Gareth Swanepoel never repeated his maiden podium from the first round.
Rattray’s team mate Tommy Searle had a sudden stop to his two podium row, but he looks forward to being back to the top three in Sugo this weekend.
