The land of the rising sun was the next stop for the World Motocross championship.
Fork-Rent Suzuki headed to Sugo in Japan for the 6th round of the championship.
Both Jason Dougan and Jake Nicholls have been steadily improving there results and speed in recent weeks and both riders were looking for a solid performance at Sugo.
Jason produced his best qualifying position of the season so far with a strong 6th place.
Jake again produced a solid ride in 12th place. But things nearly ended in disaster for both riders, as Jake went off the track in the second corner, he immediately jumped back into the circuit narrowly missing Jason which would have took both riders out - it was a lucky miss.
Jason made a good start in race one but was pushed out wide on the first turn, but by the end of lap one Jason went from 20th to ninth which showed his true potential.
Mid way through the race Jason lost a bit of rhythm which cost him his first top ten finish in the world championship.
Jake didn’t make a great start and struggled to find his groove but kept battling forward to find himself into a points position, but unfortunately Jake crashed and just missed out on his first world points.
Both riders made comfortable starts in race two but Jason had the misfortune to get taken out at the end of the start straight whilst in mid flow.
Jake on the other hand went from strength to strength and found himself within the top ten for the first fifteen minutes of the race, but running at that pace was something new for the 17 year old and dropped back slightly but still managed to gain his first two points of the season.
Jason did manage to get things going after the crash on the start but was more than 30 seconds off the pack, Jason then produced one of his best rides of his career to rampage through the pack to 15th with only a handful of riders matching his lap times.
Team Manager – Mark Chamberlain
"I'm more than pleased with the weekend, it is a lot of work going to a race like Japan and the boys gave it everything - you can't ask more than that.
Jake and Jason’s second races showed what they can do.
Jake running top ten pace for 15 minutes and I think that was Jason's best race I have seen him in, Jason was fast enough to be top six.
I hope they both take the plus points from what was a good weekend for Team Fork-Rent Suzuki”.
Team schedule –
Maxxis British Championship at Langrish, Hampshire 3rd June
