HIGH FIVES with WAYNE SMITH
August 30, 2007
Wayne Smith is fast so fast he rides both classes on two different CC bikes – some say he should concentrate on the bigger bike and that’s exactly what he’s doing next year with Pioneer Yamaha. We caught up with Wayne on the way to Leirop for this weekends final GP of the year. MOTO: How did the British GP go for you? WAYNE: The British GP went OK, I scored a point in moto one and was up to seventeenth in moto two but then crashed big so only finished twenty second so a bit disappointed – I enjoyed it still and the track was awesome. MOTO: How does a Brit GP compare to any other race? WAYNE: The fans are amazing and the atmospheres is electric there’s nothing like your own home grand prix. MOTO: You’ve recently signed for Pioneer/Optima Yamaha, how did that come about? WAYNE: Mike Forster and Roy Emberson contacted me and asked me about my plans for 2008, we got together and they came up with a brilliant package. I've known Roy and Mike for a while so I'm looking forward to working with them as I feel we can put together something strong for next year. I can’t thank Honda and Paul Rowlands enough for everything they've done and we've had three good years together but I'm looking forward to a new challenge. MOTO: Your currently leading the British four-stroke championship, are you staying on the big bike next year? WAYNE: Yes I’m staying 450 full time next year, its suits my riding style so much better - so now I’ve wrapped up the British four-stroke championship I’m now really looking forward to a full season on the big bike with Yamaha. MOTO: RANDOM QUESTION - what's the weirdest thing you've seen at a GP? WAYNE: Watching blow football (laughs out loud). For full details you need to talk to big Al Gregory. MOTO: Sounds interesting, we certainly will dude and good luck in Leirop.
