Motocross bandits strike
March 04, 2008
Police say they are investigating whether there is a link between the incidents after the Local in Studfall Avenue and the nearby M & J stores were broken into on Sunday at 4pm after a burglary at a supermarket in Occupation Road, Corby, on Friday at 7.50pm.
A woman in her 30s who was working alone handed over the till after the pillion passenger who pulled up on a motocross bike went in to the store and demanded cash.
A colleague said: "She was working on her own when he came in.
"He jumped over the counter and took the cash."
A police spokesman said: "There were two offenders, both on a motocross bike. The passenger got off the bike and went into both the shops.
"In one of the shops they took the whole till and fled and in the other shop they took money out of the till.
"There was no violence, demands or threats.
"The till that was taken was found in a wooded area nearby, minus the cash, and we are still looking for the offenders."
The bike was new looking, black and white with a number four painted on it, but police have few details about the bikers although both wore dark clothing and the rider wore a black helmet.
Two men were also involved in the burglary at the Occupation Road store. One man, who wore a crash helmet, got off the bike and walked into the shop and began to take cash. He tried to disable the CCTV before making off with the money.
The bike was red, blue and white and both men were wearing dark clothing.
The rider wore a red scarf over his face and a baseball cap.
Police would like to speak to witnesses and they can be contacted on 08453 700700 .
