AN 18-year-old motocross rider was airlifted to hospital today (Sunday) after he fell off his bike during practice.

The teenager was knocked unconscious shortly before noon at the Blythburgh practice motocross track, near Southwold.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance was sent to the scene and airlifted the victim to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.

The extent of his injuries is unknown but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening. An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said the man's bike had cart wheeled across the track as he came off it.

“The first thing that hit the ground was his head and he knocked himself out straight away,” he said.

“It was like a rag doll being thrown before he came to rest on the track.

“The helicopter landed in the middle of the track.”

A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed the Anglia One helicopter had been sent to the scene.

“A patient was taken to hospital. He came off his bike,” she said.
