Rattray rules and Searle shows determination
September 06, 2008
Welcome to Leirop was the first sign we noticed when arriving in Hollandland near the circuit that and the number of good looking chicks riding bikes in and around town, you wouldn’t get that at Donington.
On to the racing and Tyla Rattray set the fastest time in MX2 qualifying race one, Tyla was pushed all the way by veteran sand master Erik Eggens who stole the lead near the end of the session for a few laps but Rattray looked in determined mood and ripped back the lead and went onto win.
Belgium team member Jeremy Van Horebeek looked good on the tough Benelux circuit and finished third.
British interest in this moto was high with Shaun Simpson and Stephen Sword placing well to secure their start gates for Sunday’s main event.
UTAG’s American import Zach Osborne also did well in his first attempt at racing at Leirop with a strong 8th place finish.
Race two was packed with incident including an amazing ride by Tommy Searle from near last to 4th, what happened at the beginning of the race is unsure but Searle was balls out to secure his place for tomorrows main.
Before this weekend it was obvious that sand specialists and home grown riders will pull off some great rides and Joel Roelents did just that to win the moto, little French warrior Nicholas Aubin was 2nd and Searle’s team mate Rui Goncalves who led at the beginning was third.
The LCQ is going to be an interesting spectacle with a whole host of British riders looking for a start in tomorrows races – check back later for more info.
