Rider dies at Loretta Lynn’s

July 31, 2008

Officials say a motocross rider has been killed during an American Motorcyclist Association event at country star Loretta Lynn's ranch in Hurricane Mills.

Humphreys County Coroner Dr. Richard Jackson said the victim and another rider were airborne from a jump when they bumped each other around noon on Tuesday.

Jackson said the 40-year-old man from Colorado landed on a shoulder blade and was pronounced dead at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, about 50 miles west of Nashville.

Jackson said the other rider wasn't aware of the accident until the race was halted.

He said the victim, whose identity has not been released, died of chest injuries.

Motocross events have been held at the ranch for 29 years.
