Searle and Alessi take first blood at Sheffield
November 04, 2007
The first of the ACU British Supercross championship rounds took place at the Sheffield arena on Saturday night in front of a large but mainly quiet crowd.
Numerous stars of motocross decided to show up in their bid to win the British title – they included Tommy Searle, Jeff Alessi, Elliott Banks Browne, Jason Thomas and Mike Brown.
Tommy’s practise session didn’t go quite plan after a big off on lap four but come 7pm when the main event was in full swing, Tommy really stepped up to the mark and took the MX2 Lite class in fine style, from Jean Sebastian Roy and Wulfsport KTM’s Shaun Simpson.
In the Open class it was two Americans who showed their class and they were Jeff Alessi and Mike Brown – Brown didn’t have the best start but the veteran didn’t let that stop him as he clawed within a bike length of the younger of the Alessi brothers but just couldn’t find the right line to pass, Jeff looked in fine form and looked comfortable in his victory – JA could pull a few surprises at the AMA supercross races this year if he keeps going at this rate for sure, Canadian Colton Facciotti was third.
The track itself was small but very tidy and it seemed the riders enjoyed the night – only down side was the lack of atmosphere – the crowded were really quiet and didn’t seem in to it, more crowd interaction and entertainment is certainly needed to make sure the fans return but overall a good first round of the championship.
