SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND
August 17, 2007
It’s been a busy week at MOTO – deadline is so much fun I love it. Issue 24 is looking oh so SWEET!I’m off to the DEP at Blaxhall Pits for some two-stroke fun, just hope the weather holds?
It’s the biggy next week which is going to be awesome “BRITISH GP”, I really can’t wait for that – anyway I’m off to shoot some 90’s kit so laters peeps. Chussy At last the weekend, this week has dragged! I've been thinking about riding my bike all week, to keep this short (well I'm busy, deadline is next week), I'm off riding with some chums at one of my favourite tracks, Blythburgh pits in Suffolk, AKA 'The Pit', cracking sand track and with some rain this week, should be in tip top condition! James Well, it’s time to pack the bags again, and this time it’s for one of my favourite GPs of the year – The Grand Prix of (Northern) Ireland, although, I’ll be honest about this; my weekend might not actually be all about the racing… Just like Donington next week, the GP will be held at a brand new facility, one built with the 2008 Motocross des Nations in mind. It’s been documented several times before that the regular GP venue in Ulster – the excellent Desertmartin circuit – just wouldn’t be able to cope with the crowds expected at next year’s race. With Internet rumours suggesting that Josh Coppins will have to sit another race out, the pressure is going to be on Steve Ramon to start making headway in the battle to pass Coppins at the top of the leadership board. But with the Suzuki rider in arrears by 43 points (and 25 available per moto win) as we head to Moneyglass Demesne, I’m going to predict that Coppins will still have the Championship lead going into Donington. There are so many riders capable of winning in MX1 right now – Strijbos, Pourcel, Philippaerts, de Dycker and Mackenzie to name a few – I find it hard to believe someone won’t take points off Ramon. Remember ‘The Bomb’ (and what an unlikely nickname that is) hasn’t finished in the top three in any of his last six GP motos. Of course that gives Coppins another week to get into some sort of shape, but remember Donington is going to be pretty jump-infested and, well, we all know about Lierop (if you don’t – it’s a Dutch sandbox), surely neither will help the Coppins cause. It would be a tragedy if Josh lost out, but the fact remains, the guy that wins the title is the one that scores the most points, and if that man is Steve Ramon then so be it. But I am not counting out Seb Pourcel quite yet. That kid is on a roll and if he takes more than 10 points off Ramon this weekend, the Belgian might just start feeling the heat from behind too! As for the off the track stuff, I’ll be trying out a few drinking dens in the area, obviously with next year’s Nations in mind. When it comes to writing a preview for that race, I want to make sure I can recommend the best bars from real experiences, not artificial ones. It’s a hard life! Matt
