SUSO agrees title sponsorship for SUSO MVR-D Suzuki Motocross in 2008

January 22, 2008

SUSO, the disruptive next generation soft drink, is a brand that is using creativity to make something of the things we imagine by leaning on our determination, with a will to succeed, to do what others say can’t be done. For SUSO, there is NO CAN’T DO.

For the SUSO MVR-D Suzuki Team NO CAN’T DO is their daily philosophy. Each member has a story that defines them – in some cases these are stories of pure imagination and creativity – in others the stories are of triumph over adversity – triumphs born of belief and single mindedness to stick at it even when it hurts. SUSO is committed to telling the stories of talented individuals and the UK motocross community with its rare breed of ‘battle hard race warriors’ has lots to share. Here are some highlights from our amazing young team.

20 year old Jason Dougan (aka Doogie) is one of the hottest properties in UK motocross. Taking the overall victory in Pontrilas at the end of 2007, big things are expected of this rider in 2008. And that’s how it’s always been for Doogie. The son of a naval PT instructor Doogie travelled the world from an young age and his early experiences instilled him with the understanding that the key difference between success and failure lies in an individual’s determination. After breaking his ankle in 2003 and missing out on the UK U21 title, it was this determination that enabled Doogie to battle back and compete with the very best breaking through with his first GP qualification in Portugal in 2005. Nowadays his and the team’s expectations are significantly higher, and given his attitude and application, so are the possibilities for this talented rider in 2008.

Two times British MX2 Champion and seven times British Schoolboy champion Carl Nunn is a legend of the British dirt. Now a husband and father there’s no doubt that these days he’s racing for much more than former glories. But 2007 was a tough year for Carl and tested his self belief to the full. A nasty off at Hawkstone Park at the very first event in Feb left him with a testing back injury that essentially ended his dreams of defending his title. Such is the life of the motocrosser that he still raced much of the season despite the injury in an attempt to deliver for team and sponsors. Looking to 2008 he has imagined himself back on the top step and given the determination and ability he’s shown all his life, few would bet against him.

Marcus Norlen is one of Sweden’s long line of hard men (although this one has actually been known to smile which is something entirely new!). Marcus draws his inspiration from a certain Carlquist, one of the best known Swedes in MX history. Carlquist himself once led a GP at the National Park in Belgium by so far that he actually stopped at the trackside for a cool sup of beer before continuing on to win the race. Marcus tells us that he aspires to that level of excellence (less the beer!) and as such has shown a special dedication and invention throughout the winter training back home in Sweden in the snow on full spiked tyres! Whatever it takes to get that edge.

Alongside Marcus, James Cottrell starts his first full year in the adult ranks in 2008 and has the talent, the speed and the attitude to do very well on the home-front riding in the British Maxxis Champs and the British U21s. James’ story is again one of overcoming life’s barriers in that just under two years ago he broke his pelvis which resulted in his being wheelchair bound for a period of time. Back on the bike today he still needs regular physio treatment to manage the injury but he’s determined not to let the condition end his ambitions in motocross.

Natalie Kane is a phenomena in UK motocross. She’s fast, oh she’s very fast. And she’s determined. Fully recovered from last year’s shoulder injury that kept her out for most of the season she’s ready to take on all comers. So ready is Natalie that she will be racing against the youth men in the MX2 class in this years British Championships. This driven Irish racer imagined it, and through mastery of her skill and her own application, history is hers to make. Pure No Can’t Do attitude.

SUSO will lead from the front and collaborate with passionate people who combine belief, experience and like mindedness advocating, encouraging and supporting NO CAN’T DO attitude. SUSO is proud to support SUSO MVR-D Suzuki as part of a next generation of UK talent looking to master their skills, face their challenges and achieve their goals. SUSO will invest considerable resource and effort in 2008 to tell the story of this team alongside all our athletes, artists and activists.
