Team Fork-Rent Suzuki - 5th Round..
June 25, 2007
Team Fork-Rent Suzuki secured yet more championship points this weekend at the 5th round of the Maxxis British motocross championship.
Round five saw the team cross the Irish Sea to Desertmartin in Northern Ireland for a wet and windy championship battle.
Both Jason and Jake were looking for two solid rides to keep the team momentum moving forward.
Qualifying had mixed results, Jason swept into fourth place and Jake managed only eighteenth, “that wasn’t my best”, explained Jake afterwards.
Race one saw Jason down in 16th on the first lap, with the track total distance shortened due to the weather, Jason had to dig deep and fight his way passed riders in every corner. By lap two he was flying and by the halfway stage he was sitting in 6th place.
With a few laps to go Jason passed Carl Nunn to drop into fourth which secured him 23 valuable points.
Another poor start left Jason with plenty of work to do, but like the first race he knuckled down and set blistering lap times to pass riders on every lap.
With two laps to go after battling with Mike Brown for the whole race, Jason missed a gear and let the American rider through and had to settle for 6th position.
“My speed was good today but I made things difficult by not getting the gates, everything is moving forward and I’m looking forward to Sweden this weekend”.
Jake followed in his team mates footsteps and didn’t get a good gate in race one, but plugged away at the riders in front and managed to finish in 12th position.
In the second race Jake managed to make a better start but crashed on the third turn.
This left the teenager way back at the rear of the field, Jake then put in a fantastic performance and went from dead last to finish fourteenth.
“I wasn’t happy with my first race but in moto two I felt in control and fast. It was a shame I dropped it so early but my speed coming through was good”.
Team Manager – Mark Chamberlain
“I’m pleased with the weekend for a few reasons - both Jason and Jake had bad starts to deal with due to me making a bad call on a different engine setup. I can’t fault their effort they put in and we the team are now focused on a big push until the end of the season”.
