The dust has settled at Budds
September 24, 2007
After the dust has settled its good to sit down and reflect what has happened here at Budds Creek. Firstly the American team were outstanding – Ryan Villopoto showed that even with Ricky Carmichael retiring from motocross, the USA have a very good replacement, not only for now but for years to come Villy will be a dominant force in both MX and SX wherever he races. What about Tim Ferry? The guy well and truly shut the bench racers up with a solid display of riding, even with a huge off; Tim didn’t let up and cruised passed world-class riders with ease.
Maybe some of the riders on the GP scene need to look at their own work ethic as Tim and the rest of the team showed class and professional qualities second to none. And finally the main man himself – Ricky Carmichael.
Ok he didn’t win both races but even he admitted he could have been better prepared but with this showing he’s still the fastest motocross rider on the planet.
THE G.O.A.T The Brits!
Billy, Tommy and James were magnificent, the problem with Tommy’s bike not arriving certainly wasn’t a team issue as the Italians and a few others suffered the same problem – lessons will be learnt for sure. Both Billy and Tommy rode superbly well to secure team GB fifth place – nothing else to say apart from the boys did good! Now to the James injury, after his off I spoke to James trackside with him holding a bag of ice to his injured shoulder and it didn’t look good then.
James is bitterly disappointed but he knows its all part of the sport of motocross. In the final moto of the day the MOTO team were in the pits with all the British team cheering and screaming support to both Billy and James and I witnessed one of the bravest moments in my sports journalist career and that was James struggling through the pain to rejoin the race to secure some points – if he didn’t ride we would have finished 8th but the young warrior put the pain behind him and got on with the job – when you see the images in the magazine and video footage you will understand what he went through – unbelievable. For me it was the best motocross event I have ever been too, the crowd, racing, facilities, atmosphere, weather, track design and the sheer magnitude of what was in front of my eyes were mind blowing - for me the Budds Creek MXDN will be hard to beat for a very long time…Chussy
