25 years of Weston
October 16, 2007
The 25th annual Weston Beach race takes place this weekend in Weston Super Mare in Somerset.

MOTO attended the wet but fun press launch today and caught up with the main man himself Gareth Hockey and asked him a few questions about his years involved with one of the UK’s biggest sporting events.
Gareth’s been involved for the whole 25 years of the event and has seen some changes over the years for sure, “ the biggest change is the health and safety side of things, when we first started, there was no fencing but now its completed enclosed”, explained Gareth.
With 1140 solos taking part this year and hundreds more quads, sidecars and youth riders its going to be huge and could be the largest beach race ever, the weather forecast is good for the weekend but you can’t rely on British weather, so pack your wellies and waterproofs just in case.
Moto asked Gareth what his favourite part of the weekend is, “the end”, was his reply with a big grin on his face.

This type of event takes a year to organise so hats off to Gareth and his team for putting on a great show year after year.
Stefan Everts, David Knight, Steve Ramon and David Knight are looking like the favourites but you can always rely on Paul Edmondson and a few others to throw a spanner in the works in the three hour spectacular.

So if you have nothing planned this weekend, get yourself to Weston for the 25th annual beach race and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
