Mistake for Mackenzie but he’s still hanging in there

May 19, 2008

Just like in MX2 the MX1 was packed full of race action, Marc De Reuver did the business and came away with his first overall victory of the year – has the Dutchman turned a corner?

Billy Mackenzie suffered a horrendous turn of luck in race one, the Scottish CAS Honda star was fighting his way up to second place but unfortunately he landed wrong off one of the jumps after eventually getting himself going he came home in eighth, ‘We found it hard to find a good setting on Saturday which was frustrating, but the bike was perfect on Sunday. I felt relaxed and showed my speed, but was just unlucky to crash in the first race, my second race was great’.

As Billy said his second race was so much better as he settled in to a sensible fourth after the rain made the race into a lottery, this gave him a hat full of points and his quest to become world champion is still on course.

Molson Kawasaki rider Tom Church got over his illness from last week to post a confidence building 15th overall, “I had a good day today. I finished both races in the points and that’s the first time I’ve done that all year at the GPs. In the first race I got tangled up in a first lap crash with some other riders but was able to straighten out my bike and still ride through the pack for 18th place which might not sound so good but I know it was a good ride from so far back. “The second race I didn’t get such a good start but was able to come through to 13th and score some good points. Today’s ride gives me a lot of confidence which is something I was lacking after the last few races where things haven’t gone so well for me.”

Brad Anderson did himself and the Swift Suzuki team proud with a solid ride in moto two which gave him his best world championship ride of the year for 18th overall, KTM UK’s James Noble was two places behind in 20th.
