Wet weather means more Maxxis championship points for Moggstar KTM
June 28, 2007
Wet weather and drizzle overshadowed the fifth round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship at Desertmartin in Northern Ireland this past weekend. Weather notwithstanding, this is one of Moggstar KTM's more successful weekends yet in this year's championship. The Ratsep brothers got right back into the game in the MX2 class and qualified in the mid-twenties in the morning's qualifying session, Kristjan two places higher than his younger brother, in twenty-third.
This first race at 1pm did not go very well at all for Priit as he was out of the race before it had even begun properly with an equipment failure. Kristjan on the other hand put in a splendid race after a start in twenty-fourth. Within a lap he had made up another six positions and fought hard to keep his place in the top twenty throughout.

The second race looked to be much better for Priit than the first, having started in eighteenth, but once again fate struck hard and fast, and he was relegated to thirty-second after a crash in the third lap. He worked his way back to twenty-fourth by mid-race, and again came off to restart in twenty-ninth. Priit ended the weekend in twenty-seventh.
Kristjan put in another solid race after his start in the back of the pack. Within four laps he had sliced through the pack like a hot knife through butter before he met opposition in the form of David Willet. Tracking Willet throughout the remainder of the race, Kristjan kept his place in seventeenth and was able to capitalise on Willet's mistake in the second-last lap to end in sixteenth. Kristjan's overall for the day was a nineteenth place, but his first points in the Maxxis championship now catapult him to thirtieth in the championship with three rounds to go.
Team owner Mark Bishop declared himself to be very satisfied with the day's results and was particularly pleased to have Kristjan pick up where Jim Murro left off - collecting points.
The next race for the team will be at Great Torrington in Devon this coming weekend for round five of the CCM British MMX Championship. The next round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship will be at Whitby in Yorkshire on July 8.
