IOM summer series a rip roaring success
June 20, 2008
JED Etchells, Danny McCanney and Reece Crellin are unbeaten with six wins apiece at the end of the opening two rounds of the IoM Schoolboys' Motor Cycle Club's summer motocross series sponsored by Webtech Sotware and Tiernan Joinery at Ballagarraghyn, Jurby, on Saturday and Sunday.
Young Jed was on top in the Automatics class but future challenges could come from the likes of Dillon Cowie who collected five second places and a third on his way to second overall. Sophie Heath was very points' productive in claiming third overall.
Reece easily got the better of Nathan Harrison and Lee Dentith in the 65s class.
Danny McCanney, who returns to British championship racing this weekend, was out on a two-stroker on Saturday and reverted to his 250F on Sunday and in both instances he was unbeatable, although good mate Jack Faragher had some promising starts before fading.
He and Dayle Collister battled hard all weekend for the runner-up berth, the verdict going to the former by virtue of the final race result, which saw Faragher trailing home last after an off. In the big wheel 85 class, Jamie McCanney blitzed the field in every race bar one, the British championship challenger ending up on his ear when he clipped the side of the table top drop-off in first race on Sunday.
It took him a little while to gather himself but it meant third place behind winner Joseph Priestley and second placed Michael Evans.
Ben Rice took home the bacon in the small wheels, with four wins, Nathan Swift notching second overall and a maiden victory in the process while Kyle Casement also took a win on his way to third place in the pecking order.
