NSMXC RACE REPORT. CLUB CHAMPS ROUND 10 HELD AT BADBY 6TH JULY
July 07, 2008
The truly appalling weather that lashed Northamptonshire this weekend did nothing to put off the hardy members of NSMXC from attending at the hillside Badby track and over 120 riders ended up having an excellent days racing, completing 3 full blocks and even having dust to contend with during the 3rd block! The day also took on an international flavour as the club had guest riders from both Holland and Latvia riding in the Adult groups!
It was the Over 35’s who were first out and first blood went to Darren Murray who handled the slippery conditions the best in the opener, but as the day dried out Darren’s results slipped and he eventually had to settle for 3rd overall. Behind him in the first race was Richard Brown whose two 2nd ‘s and a win in the last race gave him the top spot for the day. Greg O’Callaghan proved to be the best of the rest and his two 4th placed finishes were rounded off nicely by a win in the 2nd heat and he claimed 3rd overall.

Ali Meadows was in a class of his own in the BW 85’s and he romped off for three easy gate to flag victories. Behind him though it was anyones guess as to who would come out on top between Jordan Wills, Jack Gower and Ben Huckerby. But it was Jordan whose two 3rd s and a 2nd who took 2nd overall ahead of an equally quick Jack whose small error in the 1st heat cost him dear.
Tom Moore and Paul Shires were at each other all day in the Adult Under 35’s and ended up on equal points but Tom claimed 2nd spot courtesy of his 2nd place ahead of Paul in the last race. Meanwhile Ed Linnell recovered from a ‘poor’ first race 4th place and he went on to take 2nd in the next and a win and the day in the last race.
It looked like a fourstroke track early on as the SW 85’s hit the track and Matt Harrison’s Honda 150 handled the slippery conditions better than the chasing Joe Collier on his KTM and Matt scored a great win. In their second race it looked like it was going the same way until, as the last lap flag came out, Joe made his move on Matt stick and he went on to take the victory. As the day dried out though so Joe’s pace improved and in their last race he was past Matt much earlier and took the final win and the overall. Behind these two Luke Wightman rode steadily all day and finished a couple of points ahead of Max Pinney for an excellent 3rd spot.
Ryan Snaith was in fine form in the 65’s as he roared around the track with no difficulty for 3 solid race wins. Callem Bennett valiantly tried to stay with him although he was never quite on Ryan’s pace but he still left clean air between himself and the guys fighting it out for 3rd overall. That honour going to Jack Evans with two 3rds and and 4th.
Another good sized field of Autos braved the early conditions and all eventually enjoyed some great racing around a shortened track.
Ben Kind was in sparkling form though and was unbeatable all day. Behind him JC Verdugo was suffering from poor starts leaving himself with a lot to do but his twp 3rd places and a 2nd in the last race gave him 2nd overall. Jordan Hearn recovered from his bad first race result and went on to take a 2nd and a 3rd to secure his place on the final step of the podium.
Ben Jeffs looked good in practice on his YZ125 and so it proved to be in the races as he had a great day scoring three fantastic wins over some strong competition. Cody Ling secured a fighting 2nd overall thanks to his better second race result ahead of Ben Rollinson and Kyle Sheard.
