Remedies Bar Championship round one - May and Preston take two sweet victories

On 2nd March the first round of the remedies bar championships took place at Garlands moor, Brandis Corner, North Devon. With gentle rain throughout the night the track conditions were sure to be challenging for some of the competitors today.

The first race of the year was the Remedies Bar Open Championships and the first holeshot of the year went to Jamie Skuse. He was closely followed by John May, Jordan Carter and Luke Mellows. May soon hit the front though and looked to open up a gap but it was Mellows who was in pursuit. Mellows got real close at stages and momentarily took the lead but it was May who took the win, closely followed by Mellows and Skuse.

In the second race it was last years champion that took the holeshot ahead of Kip Herring, Henry Western and Mellows. This time it was Herring who hit the front and tried to pull away. May run wide on a corner and that allowed Mellows through who set on catching Herring. On lap 7 all three were swapping the lead but at the end of the race it was May who made it 2 wins followed by Mellows and Skuse who rode superbly to catch Herring for third.

In the Experts 125 class it was Will Worden who took the holeshot but he ran wide on the second corner and that allowed Danial Preston and Ben Griffiths to pass. Preston would begin to open up a gap and would never look back. Griffiths would race a lonely second but the action came for third were Daren Shears and Luke Hill was battling. Shears however had the best of Hill come the end and would finish third.

In the second race Worden grabbed the holeshot again but Preston soon hit the front and would again open up a gap to take his second victory of the day. Hill would reverse the opening race result and get the better of Shears for second and third respectedly.

In the Petersen Junior A class It would be Scott Williams Who took victory in both races with two consistent rides. The opening race would see Kevin Townsend finishing second after a bad start and Jason Fraiser finishing third. The second race saw Wayne Butt finishing second followed by Luke Priddle and Charlie Layzell who had a bad first race.

In the Petersen Junior B class Lloyd Jones took a double victory, followed home by Lewis Woodford in both races, and Ian Byrne in the first race and Tom Bridewell in the second race.

Ricky Roberts took double victory in the Petersen Junior C class, followed home in both races by Luke O’Brien, and Shaun Stowell in the first race and Simon Collins in the second.

In the Remedies Bar over 35 Championship Gary Down took both victories followed home by Rob Lewis and Steve Davey in the opening race and by David Ford and Shaun Brooker in the second.

The final block of racing was cancelled early on in the day due to the decision taken to carry out vital track maintenance on the track after the qualifying sessions due to the rain overnight.
