Sunshine greets round two of BYMX at Mildenhall

April 28, 2008

The second round of the Moggstar ACU BYMX championships arrived to glorious sunshine at the neat circuit at Mildenhall Suffolk, for the CJSC clubs first National Youth event since hosting the BYMX team event back in 2006.

In the Junior 65 class, it was a battle between Jack Wilson, Ben Green and Ryan Snaith, who was going to come out tops. Wilson took two race wins on Saturday to take the advantage into Sundays races, and this he did taking race three after passing Ben Green two laps from the end. But Green was having none of it has he took the lead in race four and was battling with Ryan Snaith and Robert Yates before taking the win, Wilson coming home fourth. Wilson took the overall with three wins and the fourth, Green second and Snaith third.

Two wins and two second places saw Jordan Goodwin take the overall, in the Small wheel 85 class, ahead of Ben Howell who had a bad first race, Howell then hit back taking race two and four, and a second to take second overall on the day, with Callan Cooper third.

The Big Wheel 85 class race one had to be stopped after 6 laps, as Scott Aldridge jumped the fence and spectators, ending in a visit to hospital for young Scott, but with no spectators injured and the spectators moved from the area, The race was awarded and it was Luke Hawkins who claimed his first of four wins on the day. Second place overall went to Ryan Houghton with Rob Muscat claiming third. Daniel Hutchinson had a nightmare weekend, after arriving leading the championship, after a second place in Race one, his CDI fell of the bike in race two, and low places in races three and four, he eventually came home 10th overall.

The Open class saw Scott Elderfield take race one with ease, aboard the spare bike of Swift Suzukis Elliot Banks Brown, and it looked like on that form he would take all three races, but with talent like Joe Gregory, Dave Games, Edward Allingham and the rest of the boys hard on his heels it was not going to be that easy. Allingham stalled the bike in the first corner in race one, but came back to take a race two win, Elderfield with a bad start down in eighth. Race three and Elderfield hit the front with Gregory and Lewis Abbott hard on his heels, then with only a few laps to the finish Elderfields bike expired and Gregory went on to take the win, with ARBs Vytautus Bucas taking second ahead of Drew Goudy third. Gregory claimed the overall first place and the lead in the championship, ahead of James Hutchinson who had rode steady races all day to take second, Sean McDonald claiming third.
