The sun shines for Norfolk and Suffolk Junior Motorcycle Club
April 22, 2008
After last months dismal washout, followed by a snowy Easter weekend, the sun honoured us with its presence for most of the day. Several of the riders and parents expressed the view that this weekend was “the real start of the season.”

Great Hockham track had been well prepared and the Autos kicked off proceedings with James Dutton recording a maximum and Jake Barsby a consistent second. A couple of spills saw Travis Smith and Davey Thomas finish 2 points apart in third and fourth respectively.
In the 65s Kane Fisher was top-dog after Ryan Vickers took a huge spill over the finish-line tabletop in race 2, which took the wind out of his sails and kept him second overall. Further down the field; Bradley Fairbrother finished 20th out of 23 on his debut, with Harvey Thomas showing good form by finishing eighth having stepped up from the Autos.

Battle of the day had to go to Ben Cole and Tyler Gray in the 85 s/w. These 2 fought long and hard in all 3 races, Coles recent training session and determination paying dividends over the smooth, flowing style of Gray. Declan Whittle was third in all 3 races and Ben Stafford pipped Ryan Simpson to fifth by one point.
A full gate followed for the 85 b/w and the top spot of the podium could have went to Sonny Oliver had he had a better start and then not dropped it towards the end of his first outing, as he led home both later races. First overall went to David Kemp with Robert Hales, Ashley Smith and Max Rhoades sharing the honours and bashing bars.
The 125s followed with another full gate and a great battle ensued between George Foames, Will Beevor and Bruno van Dyke with the latter coming out on top. Charlotte Bell proved that she’s no pushover as a hard-working Joe Scillitoe remarked at the end of the last race “I just couldn’t catch her!”

Finally, the Adults didn’t have their enthusiasm dampened after catching the only shower of the day in race 2. Indeed, Mark Bunning was so keen to get going he hit the gate which pushed him down to 4th overall. Arran Powley recorded a maximum and the Bavin Boys finished a point apart in 5th and 6th.
