Wainhouse full of the joys of spring

April 28, 2008

On Sunday, the Remedies Bar Championships made there first visit to Wainhouse Corner for the fifth round of the championship. As I arrived on Saturday there were several riders already there and the atmosphere was good, but most importantly the sun was shining. Saturday night however brought rain, and with parts of the track being clay it was sure to be difficult riding conditions.

In the opening experts race it was Luke Mellows who had the best start and straight away looked to opening up a gap. Dave Yelland was second, with Andrew Gillett in third. In fourth, making a guest appearance was Alex Snow who was effectively the first 125 machine. Mellows race however was soon over when he had gearbox problems and had to retire. Yelland inherited the lead and was soon under pressure from Snow, who had over taken Gillett after he crashed on the far side of the circuit. Yelland went on to take the victory from Snow, with Gillett back in third.

In the second race it was Kip Herring who had the quicker reaction time, but was soon over taken by Gillett who wanted to go one better than his first race result. John May was third, George Davis fourth, and Danial Preston, the first 125 rider running in fifth. By mid race it was still Gillett in the lead, followed by Herring and May, and that was how it finished at the end of the race. Luke Hill came home in fourth, placing him first home amongst the 125 riders.

In the final race Jordan Carter got the holeshot, and in a repeat of the first race Gillett soon hit the front and looked to pull a lead. Yelland however had other ideas and soon hit the front and had a comfortable lead. May was third, but was struggling with his shoulder injury, and would get overhauled by Jamie Skuse come the end of the race. Behind May was the top three 125 riders which were Hill, Preston and Darren Shears.

In the Peterson Junior A Championship we would see three different winners come the end of the days racing. In the opening race it was Michael Williams who took the victory, followed home by Jason Fraiser, and Ken Fuller onboard his 250 2-stroke Yamaha. The second race saw Scott Williams take the chequered flag from James Cole, and Fuller repeating his first race result. In the final race though Fuller would take victory, handing him the overall on the day, with Cole again finishing second and race 2 winner Scott Williams in third.

In the Junior B Class Richard Tapscott went on to take the overall on the day with two seconds and a first. Edward Mountjoy who won the opening race ended up with a second and fourth to go with his opening race result and would end the day second overall. In third was Ben brewer who had a brace of thirds and a second result in the final race.

In the over 35’s class Gary Down went on to take three victories. In the opening race he was followed home by Dean Warren and Sean O’neil. Warren again finished second in the second race, but was this time followed home by Rob Lewis. In the final race O’neil went one better than his first race result by finishing second, with David Ford coming home in third.
