Brilliant sunshine and brilliant racing at Upton Court

May 16, 2008

In stark contrast to three weeks ago brilliant sunshine greeted the riders at Upton Court last weekend.
Jim Shand and Mick Hudson worked long into the night watering the track then again early Sunday morning leaving the track in tip top condition which held up well throughout the days racing. Unfortunately the day was interrupted by a couple of red flag incidents, Chloe Cumen in the juniors class falling and suffering arm injury and a lengthy stop when Tom Fish in the MX1 class landed awkwardly after a jump and required a trip to the hospital via the air ambulance with a suspected spinal injury. At the same time Kinvers own Nigel Hackett decided not to be out done and made somewhat of a spectacular bail out on one of the other jumps leaving him battered and bruised. Zac Hackett decided to follow in his fathers foot steps in the inters class and falling off sustaining hand ligament damage.

Despite the red flags the whole three blocks of racing were completed with the spectators being treated to some very fast and exciting racing.
Kinver’s rider of the day was Michael Hudson in the under 18 juniors, Michael maxed out with three straight moto wins for forty five points and first overall also giving him the James Chamberlain memorial trophy. In the same class Nathan Smith and Josh Bate had there own battle with Josh scoring twelve points to Nathan’s eleven.

Ben Hodgkins in the inters class had a excellent day scoring thirty four points for second overall. Andy Jenkins in the MX1 seniors also picked up second overall scoring twenty eight points not far behind Andy was Mick Hudson having a good start to the season picking up another eighteen points.

Sam Price following on from his first overall the previous week at Hawkstone picked up third overall with twenty four points in the MX2 seniors. The only other trophy winner for Kinver was the ever present Craig Chamberlain in the MX2 experts having three steady rides for thirty points and third overall.
