Cornwall SSC at Landrake

The Cornish Winter Series got underway at Landrake Moto park on Sunday, riders arrived on Saturday night to a firework display laid on by the club, and land owner Phil Congdon, and a collection of £180 was raised for childrens charity C.L.I.C.

Sunday morning saw race order Auto's up, with young Clayton Coaker taking two race wins and overall victory, Aidan Williams took the other race win on his way to second overall, with the ever improving Lewis Hawkins third. Little Harry Bell came sixth ahead of big sister Jamie leigh in seventh. A single point separated tenth to thirteenth place racers Frazer Buckingham, Callum Jago, Lewis Thomas and Mary Gribble.

The 65cc juniors saw Josh Gilbert lead from start to finish in all three races, Billy King was getting fast starts and rode well securing second overall, with Jack Roberts third. Dean Symons, and Jack Perkins swopped race positions all day, Dean eventually claimed forth overall. Another battle further down the field saw Allistair Gwennap and Oliver Winn tie on points for thirteenth and fourteenth positions, a better final race result gave Oliver the higher place overall.

The small wheel 85 class saw some super fast race action, with Marley Howlett, Jack Stevens, Jack Blackburn, Jack Gribble, Alex Tarr and James King all leading the races at various times throughout the day. Howlett took two race wins and first overall, Stevens took the other race win and second overall, with Blackburn third. Recently upgraded Steven Gilbert rode well to seventh overall, and young 65cc racer Bill Gribble bought a 150 Honda in the pits sunday morning, upgraded having never rode the bike before and came in twelfth overall from the twenty-five strong field.

Charlie Elliot took his first race win in the big wheel 85 class and first overall as well. The consistant Simon Gill secured second overall, Ross deason also took his first big wheel race win on his way to third overall aboard his new KTM. The other race win went to Bradley Maddever who was also leading the other two races, before a couple of tumbles cost him dearly.

Kelvin Townsend dominated the 125 senior class, taking all three race wins and overall victory, Kawasaki mounted Wayne Back chaised hard securing second overall with Nick Wadge and Aaron Jenkins not far behind. Racing was close right down through the field. Freshly upgraded Gavin Roach found himself in a private battle all day with Lisa Millward and Jamie Pharoah with all three proving very equal riders.

A full line of AMX saw Plymouth's Darren Shears take his new 144 to a three ride maximum score, Launceston's Sam Chapman aboard his Race Hill KTM chaised hard in the first moto, but later retired with an ankle injury leaving Seb Bartlett to secure second place. Tom Harvey had a good ride taking third overall, Home on leave from Iraq royal marine Robert Gilbert and Ray Arnold tied on ninety points for ninth and tenth place, while further down the field eighteenth and nineteenth place racers Steve Gliddon and Andy Gibbons jostled for supremacy where the evenly matched pair also tied on points.

The club wishes Lawrence Harper a speedy recovery after he broke his arm in the SW85 first race.
