East Kent SSC - Wind blows away dust at Ringmer
June 23, 2008
Unexpectedly the sun shone on Ringmer for the 7th Round of the Summer Championship. The wind helped blow away a lot of the dust but, at times, the riders were creating small storms! Full line ups in nearly all groups promised an exciting day’s racing and we certainly weren’t disappointed!
The Seniors were the first to race and Arron Jenner was taking no prisoners. He led the first and last races to the chequered flag. He ran second to Karl Johnson throughout the second race until the last lap, when he found an extra burst of speed, which, together with his other two wins, gave him maximum points. Jack Hasemore rode consistently to get 2nd place and Karl Johnson took the 3rd spot on the podium, tying with Adam Cooper and Piers Skinner on points, but getting the highest result of the three. Congratulations to Harrison Utting for getting his highest result ever at 4th in the second moto!
The AMX was an adrenalin-charged battle in all three races and the spectators were rewarded with some fantastic racing. Five riders were all in serious contention for the top spot; Matt Hornby, Paul (Wildman) Willis, Brett Fisher, Brian Carter and Louis Waugh. Despite leading much of the racing, Matt just could not fight off the challenges and Brian took the honours in the first race, Louis in the second and Paul in the third. Consistent riding in all 3 races gave Paul Willis the overall, Matt Hornby second and Brett Fisher third. Chris Chapman seems to be back on form after his injuries and won the first 2 BW motos easily, but Lewis Dowsett pulled out all the stops to take victory in the 3rd race. This gave him second overall to Chris’s first, with Mikey Lucken in 3rd. This group is getting visibly faster as the season progresses!

In the SW’s, Brad Garrett was on top form and easily took the top podium place after his convincing wins. Oliver Townsend was rewarded with second overall and Andrew Hutchison took third place.
The Junior group was another hotly contested group and Patrick O’Neill and Jake Deacon battled all day to get on the top of the podium. Ultimately Jake won the day with Patrick a deserving second. Steady racing from Michael Ellis earned him the third spot.
The Autos race saw yet another victory for newcomer Albie Wilkie. Still wearing his Novice Hi-vis jacket, he stormed his way to 3 clear wins. This is a boy to be watched! Jake Kemp rode well to get second overall, with Ashton Manktelow in third.
Well done to all the riders and thanks to the committee and medics for a good day’s racing. See you at the 2 day meeting at Staplehurst on 5th and 6th July.
