It was no Branston pickle for Kinver
April 30, 2008
It was shades of last year for Kinver riders last weekend, two qualifying rounds and a normal group meeting saw Kinver riders sent to three different meetings. MX2 riders travelled to Branston for their second round qualifiers, MX1 riders travelled to Long Lane for their one and only round for qualifying while the rest of the members travelled to the familiar Boraston circuit.
Qualifiers first, the MX2 lads had a lot to prove after their somewhat disappointing first round scores, out of all the meetings Branston faired best on the weather front light overnight rain dampened the track leaving a excellent racing surface, James Shand top scored having three good rides for thirty eight points on the day Ryan Shand trailed not far behind picking up twenty five points, Jake Chamberlain had two good races for ten points one in front of Tom Weston who picked up nine points. it was not such a good day for Leon Thomas who failed to pick up any points on the day. All riders will now have to wait for all the scores to be collated to se if they make the championships.
MX1 riders entered in to the qualifiers only had one round to score after their first round was cancelled two weeks previous.
Heavy over night rain left the track in somewhat of a muddy state but thankfully the rain held off for the rest of the day with the track improving with every race.
The Kinver lads lined up for the first race in the form of Matt Gordon , Neil Williams and qualifying new boys Josh Williams and Ben Chamberlain. Matt’s chances were almost over by the first bend as he stalled his bike and continued to kick it over for a complete lap before thankfully seeing the race red flagged due to a injured rider on the first lap. Matt made up for his misfortune in the restart finishing third Neil retired with mechanical problems leaving Josh to pick up five points and Ben on zero. Moto two was pretty much uneventful with the best being saved till moto three, unbelievably the riders had to endure three false starts much to the annoyance of the competitors only eight gates dropped for the first start, a red flag in the second and another bad gate drop for the third false start finally at the fourth attempt the riders got away and managed to finish the race leaving Matt on fifty two points and third overall Josh on sixteen points Neil on eleven points and Ben failing to score.
Congratulations to Matt for qualifying for this years championships.
Boraston was a case of déjà vu for the Kinver riders but only worse having suffered the nightmare of the paddock at Upton Court the week before the Boraston circuit suffered the same only less muddy with vehicles being towed in and out during the days racing. In stark contrast the track didn’t fair much better as the riders well know practise was horrendous with riders slipping and falling on every section of the track leaving the club no choice but to alter the track three times cutting out the worse of the sections. Craig Chamberlain added yet another trophy to his collection picking up third overall in the MX2 experts with twenty eight points, Craig trailed Jack Cox on points going into the third only to see his club mate falling badly suffering a broken leg.
For the second week running under 18 junior riders Michael Hudson and Josh Bates went head to head having their own personal battle with Michael coming out on top scoring twenty five points to Joshes twenty two points whilst lower down the field Jack Price and Nathan Smith had their own battle with Jack top scoring with fourteen points to Nathan’s twelve. In the MX2 seniors Jacks older brother Sam missed out on a trophy scoring fourteen points Sam should of easily finished in the top ten only to see his moto one race win cancelled after overtaking on a yellow flag.
The only other points scorer to note was Mick Hudson in the MX1 seniors having three good rides for sixteen points. All the riders will be back together this weekend for the anticipated meeting at Hawkstone park for the two day meeting over the holiday break.
